Being Here for You

Varying forms

Being Here for You is an ongoing work and collaboration between Rita Hoofwijk and South African (based) artist Hannah Loewenthal. It began as a response to the situation of lockdowns and the impossibility of relocating themselves and their work.
They asked: Do you have to see something with your own eyes, hold it with your own hands in order for an experience to be considered ‘real’? Would it be possible to ask someone else to be your eyes, ears, hands?
These questions resulted in an exchange consisting of (im)possible requests. They executed these requests – impossibilities for the one and everyday experiences for the other – for one another and documented these experiences afterwards.

This exchange leads to other possible applications of the same principle, in varying forms and contexts.

Two presenting partners are invited to link two associated artists with two working sites. The artists are Being Here (on site) for one another, without traveling physically.

This brings into further question, considerations around distance (& proximity), travel and working in-situ.
The exchange happens in both places consecutively.

The work can be followed here:
